Coal Recovery Services (CRS) or formally known as Coal Prep Services (CPS), was established in 2019 to meet a growing demand by coal mines for a specialised operation to improve their coal quality and recoveries and hence improve their bottom line.
CRS offers an experienced, professional team with an expert management group and a highly skilled labour force operating a fleet of fit for purpose equipment.
CRS approach is ideally suited for successfully mining sloping coal seams, recovery of thin coal seams and ribs as well as splitting of small or variable clay and partings bands.

Originally qualified as a Mining Engineer with Underground Coal background.
Grant now also has a wealth of experience in Human Resources and Recruitment. He has worked with blue chip companies both locally and internationally including Cadbury Schweppes, BTR Nylex, ARCO/Lyondell Chemical, Delta SBD, Whitehaven Coal and Peabody Energy.
He has also successfully owned and operated a recruitment agency in Melbourne.
Grant has been responsible for large volume recruitment projects especially in mining with a high focus on quality and efficiency. He has also recruited from blue collar to senior level positions across different departments and industries.
With a pragmatic and value adding approach to HR, Grant has successfully transformed HR performances, handled complex industrial relations issues including negotiating Enterprise agreements. And effectively orchestrated culture change in companies.
With his background and experience Grant is ideally placed to help companies with any HR issues and recruitment needs.
From farming background, Pete was forced into a career change in the mid 90`s. He took an opportunity to enter the mining industry, and it is from there his skills and expertise developed.
He became an Open Cut Examiner in 2011 and very shortly after moving into a Production Superintendent role at Werris Creek. This is where his passion for mining coal and exploring other opportunities in mining the coal resulting in improved efficiencies and achieving higher results with recoveries and yield due to improved quality.
In 2018, Pete moved to an opportunity to help set up and run the production for Thiess at Mt Arthur South. He was able to utilise those skills he had previously honed , to convince Thiess to start Coal Prep Services, where within the first 12-month period was able to increase the coal recovery at Mt Arthur South by 14%. The recovery has remained at around 99% to this day.
In 2021, Pete took an opportunity to accept an offer to manage CPS as General Manager and did so until March 2024, where Pete teamed up with Grant Hobden and bought CPS. Giving the company a new lease of life, the name was changed to Coal Recovery Services and a new partnership was formed continuing all the old values and qualities that were proven and combining them with a passion to value add to coaling operations.
